You can do a variety of things, from two-way audio to activity zones, but there are also things called privacy zones. Similar to the Blackout zone in Philips Hue Secure Cam, the Blink Mini 2 privacy zone allows you to record an entire section within your camera’s field of view. Here we will show you step by step how to set them up and what they mean.

What you need

  • Blink App
  • Your smartphone or tablet

Short version

  • It will open Blinking app.
  • Tap Three dots on the corner Blink Mini 2 camera feed.
  • Tap Device Settings.
  • Select Motion Settings.
  • choose Motion Zone.
  • Select Privacy Zone tab On the top.
  • Drag your finger For the entire area you want to create as a privacy zone.

It’s worth noting that Blink’s privacy and activity zones are somewhat connected. When you create an activity zone, you will see an inactive greyed square in the Privacy Zone grid. Meanwhile, after creating a privacy zone, you will have a blackout grid in the activity zone grid. You can reset if you want to create one without anything else, but if there is one it applies to the other and vice versa.

As for the privacy zone aspect, you have a little more control in terms of selecting the zone compared to the activity zone. This allows you to choose half, a third, a quarter, or whatever you want. The rectangle is there but does not define what you can choose from. Activity Zones allow you to specifically select a rectangle. These individual features are explained.

Additionally, the Privacy Zone works slightly differently than the Activity Zone. If you set up a privacy zone for your Blink 2 camera, nothing happens in that area is recorded at all. The video feed has a gray section above the zone you created, making it impossible to see what happened in that zone. In the case of the Activity Zone, the zone is inactive in that no notifications are displayed if a movement occurs, but you can see what happened when you return to the video feed.

  1. Step 1.

Open the Blink app and head to your device settings

The first thing you need to do is open the Blink app. To access Blink Mini 2 settings, you need to tap on the three dots in the lower right corner of the Blink Mini 2 feed. From here, the device settings will appear in the pop-up menu.

  2. Step 2.

    Open Motion Settings

Motion settings are displayed within the device settings, and these have motion zones in the following submenu: Motion settings do not allow you to adjust sensitivity, motion recording type, or adjust the time after motion events where the Mini 2 camera does not detect motion.

  3. Step 3.

    Create a privacy zone

When you tap on the motion zone, a snapshot of the camera’s field of view is split into 64 rectangular boxes. These are activity zones. Tap the (Privacy Zone) tab above the grid to rotate it to the Privacy Zone grid. To create a privacy zone, use your finger to drag the point across the area you want to remove from the video footage.

that’s it! You must have created a privacy zone, but if Blink Mini 2 is turned on, the area will not be recorded.

FAQ

What is the difference between activity zones and privacy zones in Blink Mini 2?

If you have a privacy zone set up, Blink Mini 2 does not record what happens in that area, and when you view video footage, you will see a gray area. For the activity zone, these are inactive so you don’t receive motion alerts, but you can see what happens in the video feed.
