What is a ring home, how different ring protection is, how much does it cost?

Ring announced its brand of Ring Protection Subscription in early October 2024. Name changes and new features have been implemented. There is no more ring protection.

Ring Home brings new subscription plans, some additional tricks, and previous protected subscription plans have been automatically transferred up to now.

Below you will find out what you need to know about ring homes and what it means for you and your old ring to protect your subscription.

What is a ring home?

Ring Home is a new subscription plan for video doorbells, security cameras and alarm system rings. It was released in November 2024.

It replaces ring protection and resembles Nest Aware, a subscription service for Nest Cams and Philips Hue Secure. This is Hue’s secure security coverage subscription service. Arlo also has a subscription service called Arlo Secure, which is a standard practice for the entire security system installed by the user.

Like many of our competitors, Ringhome subscriptions have a variety of plans. What you need to choose depends on the devices you own, the number of devices you have, and which features are important to you.

How much is the Ring Home subscription?

There are three ring home subscriptions, including Ring Home Basic, Ring Home Standard, and Ring Home Premium.

• Ring Home Basic cost £4.99/$ 4.99 or £49.99/$ 49.99 years.
• Ring Home Standard cost £7.99/$ 9.99 or £79.99/$ 99.99 years.
• Ring Home Premium cost £15.99/$ 19.99 The month or £159.99/$ 199.99 year.

What happened to your Ring Protection subscription at Ring Home?

If you are a Ring Protection Subscriber before any ring home changes are made, the plan will be better and more features will be added, but the plan will be renamed. Ring Home Basic replaces the Ring Protection Basic Plan. The prices remain the same.

The Ring Home Standard Plan will replace the Ring Protect Plus plan and remain priced the same. The Ring Home Premium Plan is a completely new plan, so you will need to upgrade from the Ring Home Standard Plan or a Ring Home master plan to access that plan and its features.

There was also a Ring Protection Pro Plan for the American people. This will be changed to the ring home standard due to professional monitoring of alarms.

However, this plan does not offer 24/7 backup internet, Eero Secure, or Ring Edge (local video storage). Also, if you do not have a ring alarm or ring alarm pro device, you will not be able to obtain an SOS emergency response.

However, if you are eligible for a one-year trial of the Ringhome Premium Plan with all these features and want to retain them at the end of the trial, you can change your Ringhome subscription to the Ringhome Premium Plan.

What do I get with a Ring Home subscription?

Let’s go for something good. Below we have listed what you can get with each Ring Home subscription plan, as well as new features announced in the rebrand, as well as plans you will need to sign up to get the new features.

Ring Home Basic

It starts with Ring Home Basic. This is the cheapest subscription plan, and as mentioned, replaces the Ring Protect Basic Plan. Covers one ring device, provides video event history for up to 180 days, and provides individual and package alerts. This is explained how to set it up with a different feature.

You can also get a live view and stop by a video doorbell or ring camera for 10 minutes of monitoring at any time.

Ring Home Basic Over Ring Protect Basic is a new feature that you can get: Video Preview Alerts. This is an extension to rich notifications. When a notification occurs, a pop-up posts a video so you can see what happened and take the necessary action.

Ring Home Standard

As you can imagine, everything you get from Ring Home Basics is available as standard for Ring Home, but the Ring Camera covers all ring cameras. You also get an extended warranty, alarm cellular backup, and ring mode to allow ring devices to be remotely armed and disarmed, as well as a daily event summary that provides a scrollable feed of motion events that occurred that day.

This subscription plan also provides access to multicam live views, allowing you to view up to four camera feeds at once on Ring.com.

New features in Ring Home Standard compared to Ring Protect Plus come in the form of a doorbell call that ensures that someone gets what looks like a video call on their phone when they press the doorbell.

Ring Home Premium

For Ring Home Premium, it gets the same functionality as the Ring Home standard and applies to all ring devices.

However, you can also get a continuous live view, allowing you to watch the live view for more than 30 minutes. However, the Big Extra here is a 24/7 recording if you have a compatible device. You can also see what happened at home outside of the motion zone.

There is also a smart video search for Ring’s AI Pym, which was released in the second half of 2024 and then released in the UK in March 2025.

Smart Video Search is an AI-driven feature that allows you to search for ring camera video history using text-based queries.

Do ring video doorbells and cameras require a home subscription?

Like Nest Cams, Philips Hue secure cameras, Arlo cameras, ring security cameras and doorbells do not require a subscription to work.

Ring video doorbells can be mounted in front of the house, recording footage and providing alerts via the ring app, allowing you to talk to visitors appearing at the door via the two-way talk feature. The same applies to company indoor and outdoor cameras.

However, the device’s capabilities will be reduced. You won’t get people or package alerts or receive package alerts with the ring video doorbell. For example, notifications do not offer video previews without subscription. Door bell call is not displayed. Perhaps most importantly, you cannot save, download or share footage.
