How to make the base more stable

Better use this cup holder phone mount in a round cup holder and make sure its three feet are on force-balanced. If your cup holder is non-round, try to make sure that its three feet touch the inside of the cup holder when you use it.

How to shorten its arm properly

Simply align the grooves of the arms at each end of the joint to contract.
