After nearly a decade of quirky lamp speakers, sleazy bookshelves unit and picture frames that could pose Beyoncé, the Sonos and Ikea mashups have officially ended, and the Symfonisk line has been phased out.
Sonos confirmed their parting Bargeif the current stock runs out, that’s it.
“We have been delighted to work closely with IKEA over the past eight years and are proud of what we have achieved,” said Erin Pategas, a spokesman for Sonos.
“Our work is largely discontinued and we will not release new products as partners, but we will continue to support all existing Symfonisk products, allowing our customers to enjoy great sound at home for years to come.”
So, the table lamp speakers won’t suddenly mute, but you can’t inflate the Sonos system in an affordable range. If you’re looking at one of these speakers, now is the time to sprint before stocks disappear from IKEA shelves.
For Sonos fans, the Symfonisk range was a bit of a hidden gem as it fully acquires integration of the Sonos ecosystem at a price that doesn’t make your wallet cry.
The Bookshelf speakers retain their own uniqueness for the OG Play: 1 and Sonos One, making them an ideal budget option as a pair of surround sound rear drivers.
Symfonisk’s line filled a very specific niche. In a home theater surround that didn’t actually look like a speaker, the Symfonisk picture frame blends in with the decoration, with a flashy range of panel covers.
Sonos is trying to hone a highly critical mod app after a bumpy rollout last year.
Interim CEO Tom Conrad said the company’s priorities are revising the basics, and earlier this year, multiroom audio specialists quietly killed long-term streaming video products, signaling a new focus on the core market.
So, a goodbye symfonisk. It was a strange, great, affordable experiment.
